Open Doors at Natalie Haegeman Interiors

 

If you ever visit Belgium you definitely have to visit the shop of Natalie Haegeman. Natalie is a talented Antwerp based designer.

Last year I already posted about Natalie’s work here. In this post I told you that Natalie has a perfect eye to combine old and new objects and furniture. And she knows how to choose the perfect fabrics for seat upholstery and window treatment.

Natalie is even specialized in making lampshades! She offers a wide range of the most beautiful and custom-made shades.They are all hand- made and her clients can choose between lots of different fabrics of Natalie’s exquisite fabric collection.

A few weeks ago, Natalie had her Open Doors ( So sad I couldn’t be there!) and she sent me some of the picures of the event. I was so excited about them that I asked Natalie if I could share some of these with you, my readers. Fortunately she agreed! Thank you so much Natalie!

 

Use of subdued colors in Natalie’s bedroom. Beautiful gathered lampshade! And notice that gorgeous roman window shade!

 

Beautiful marble floortiles perfectly matching the blue-grey tones of the painted stairway railing.

 

Again a beautiful gathered lampshade. A group of ancient terracotta pots and an 18th century carved wooden panel hanging on the wall.

 

The only 4 left of a serie of old 18th century prints of birds Natalie once found at a Parisian flea market.

 

A beautiful still at Natalie’s living room. On the window tablet a serie of works of art of the French artist Jean-Marc Louis.

 

A beautiful fabric fragment on a frame as a decorative element. The fabric is of the collection of Chelsea Textiles,a company which is known for her beautiful embroidered fabrics with flowers and birds and of which a lot are seen in English hotels.

 

Fabulous linen fabrics for cushions and seat upholstery as this one here of GP&J Baker.

 

Definitely one of my favorites! Cushions in a Mark Alexander fabric.

 

Natalie’s bedroom.  Elegant embroidered ML Fabrics bedlinen and again the Chelsea Textiles fabric fragment on the wall.

 

Beautiful bench at the entrance hall with cushions in an old linen striped fabric. The small cabinet is made of an antique clock! So charming!

 

Again one of Natalie’s hand-made lampshades. Did you notice the book ‘The Private House’ by Rose Tarlow on this table?!

 

Beautiful displayed decorative accessories in Natalie’s antique cabinet.

 

Nathalie removed the doors of the upper part of this antique cabinet and painted the inside in a blue-gray color. Natalie loves all things white and clear in summer.

And isn’t this a most gorgeous kitchen?! Natalie has chosen for old terra cotta floor tiles. The fabric under the sink area and the one used for the shades of the wall sconces is of C&C Milano, Natalie’s favorite collection of linen.

The combination of that bench and the Swedish chairs around the table is just gorgeous! Notice the plate rack with the green English plates! And what a wonderful fabrics Natalie has chosen for the roman shade (C&C Milano), the pedant (Mark Alexander) and the bench (antique linen).

DIY bookshelf

So remember when I posted about my DIY book nook that the Duck turned into a bookshelf? Well now I can show you the after into greater details since the cat is outta the bag and I am no longer clutching my images waiting for High Gloss to come out. I didn't wanna spoil anything before and show you to much from the issue, which in case you have not seen go here High Gloss Issue 3 page 60.

DIY Senegalese Storage Baskets

I love these baskets, but with the hefty price tag of $150 bucks I wasn't about to spend that kinda moola on a thing I throw poop covered kid clothes into. So what does one do when they want to find a cheap alternative to something fab.....

First: head to Home Goods

&

Second: Spray Paint the shit outta it!

The Inspiration:

I found this basket at Home Goods a while ago and I liked the shape of it. It was $59.99 so I snagged it up!

I decided to go with just a simple zig zag pattern.

 I taped the shape out.

I then took a paint brush with a bit of white paint on it and dry brushed it on to make the zig zag shape.

Even though I liked the way this looked just in the natural neutral tones I wanted to punch it up a bit so I taped back over the painted zig zags and sprayed some "Berry Pink" Painters Touch over the entire thing.

I left my paint a bit blotchy so it looked more natural and antiqued..

and Walla!

I tried and although I Still like the real ones better...mine will have to do for now.

And they were here…!

I was so excited to see Brooke and her family arriving at our home on Saturday !! All the way down from Los Angeles to that small village in Belgium where we live! We were so pleased to meet each other!! The first moments I couldn’t believe this was happening! But if felt as we had known each other for a long time! And in fact it is! Two years of reading each other’s blog and emailing, abled us to know so much about each other’s life and about things that keep us busy in life!

Brooke, Steve and her children are wonderful, lovely people!! And it wasn’t hard at all to start conversations with this family! They are all adorable!

I have to confess that I didn’t took that much pictures because I was too excited I guess, but I do know that Steve has taken a lot of pictures and I am sure you will see more of our meeting on Brooke’s blog Velvet & Linen the next days!

After we had a glass of champagne to celebrate our meeting, we made a little house tour.

Unfortunately the weather was not that gorgeous. It was too chilly and we weren’t able to take the apero or to have lucnch outdoors.

 

But as you can see we went outside to see our outbuilding in which Brooke and Steve were very interested. They loved the weathered oak we used for our typical Belgian outbuilding.

  As being an architect Steve loved to know more about the Belgian architectural construction details!

So I am sure that Jan and Steve had lots of things to tell each other about architectural materials and construction! That was just wonderful!

Jan assured me that it was so interesting talking with Steve and that he would have loved to have more time to spend with Steve!

 

And then we invited the Giannetti family to have lunch with us.

The day before I had prepared the table setting in our dining room.

And it was just wonderful to have Brooke, Steve, Charlie, Nick en Leila at our table! We had so much to talk about. We have so much in commun! And I agreed with Brooke that in fact it is much easier to chat with blogfriends than with the people of our close environment, even knowing them since a long time. We really communicate in another way with our blogfriends, because we are more or less interested in the same things!

 

In my previous post about Brooke’s visit I showed you the pictures of the Menu courses we were going to have as lunch (here).

As a starter we had the Asparagus prepared in ‘the Flemish way’ (for a recipe click here).

As main course we have chosen for a typical Belgian meal, Pork cheeks (for a recipe click here).

And as dessert we had the Italian Pannacotta (for a recipe click here).

I just love this picture of Brooke! She is totally wrapped up in the conversation! As we know here!

 

While our boys Charlie, Nick and Anthony stayed at home, we drove Brooke, Steve and Leila to a merchandiser of antique building materials.

Brooke and Steve were searching for some antique doors to bring into their future home ‘Patina Farm’.

After a few hours we drove home again! Time went by much toooo fast!!

 

My friends I have to tell you something special !!!!

Brooke brought me a present!!!! I was totally excited!! Can you imagine, Brooke offered me the only copy she already had from their new book she and Steve wrote ‘PATINA STYLE’ !!!!!!!!!

I couldn’t believe!! That was sooo generous of Brooke and Steve! Brooke thought about it that it wouldn’t be easy for me to find the book here in Belgium. And yes indeed, I couldn’t pre-order it yet!

My dear friends I want you to know that the book is fantastic, fabulous, gorgeous!!! I am so pleased to have it on my coffee table! And I will be so proud to tell my clients and friends about our wonderful and talented friends Brooke and Steve and to show them this wonderful and precious gift that this book means to me!

Brooke you are a sweetie (she really is!!) ! Thank you so much for this precious gift.

As on Saturday the weather was bad, yesterday we had a wonderful sunny day! Incredible I know! But that is the way it is in Belgium!

Believe me friends, yesterday I was a bit sad!! Our time with Brooke and Steve was definitely too short! Jan and me talked about our meeting with the Giannetti family the other day and realized that there were so many more things that we would have loved to talk about with them! Unfortunately the day was too short! But there is one thing that I am sure about! We will stay in touch with Brooke and Steve and we would be so pleased to help them with the construction of their future home ‘Patina Farm’.

 

So yesterday afternoon, installed in our garden, I started to read ‘Patina Farm’ and couldn’t stop! I finished the book and I just loved reading it! Brooke and Steve are giving us wonderful tips to decorate our home, together with the most beautiful inspirational pictures!

 

Brooke and Steve, you are just wonderful people ! Jan and me are so pleased to call you friends! We are so thankful to you for the respect and friendschip we have received from you both!

We are looking forward to meet you and your family in Los Angeles next year!
