In love with libraries

 

As I have a passion for books, in particular interior design books, I love spending hours in our library.  When I need inspiration to design a client’s library or complete interior design project, I close the door of our library, put on my favorite music and start consulting my collection of interior design books.

Can you imagine, sitting in a comfortable chair next to the fire place, curling up with a book? Definitely a treat for the soul!

Lefèvre Interiors & Natalie Haegeman Interiors featured in Belgian magazine

 

I am pleased and honored to announce that our work is featured in the latest issue of one of the leading Belgian interior design & lifestyle magazines : TIJDLOOS wonen !

About a year ago the Belgian interior designer Natalie Haegeman asked our company Lefèvre Interiors for help to realize a library project she designed for one of her clients. Both, Natalie and I, were enthusiastic about this project and now we are proud to show you the result of our teamwork.

The library is made of French oak, not treated, which will give the cabinetry a used, natural patina.

This is a picture of the finished library, decorated by Natalie ! This is one of the featured pictures in the latest issue of the magazine TIJDLOOS wonen.

Library - study rooms where I would like to work

 

Aren’t you agree with me that it must be wonderful to work in one of these library-studyrooms , especially at this time of the year when days become shorter and it is getting colder outside. I love to be surrounded by wood, that definitely makes a study room warm and cozy.

Cozy corner

 

No matter the size of your home, everyone should have a cozy corner, a cozy place to curl up with a book, to listen to your favorite music, to have a cup of tea, to enjoy the warmth of the fire place or whatever you love to do in this favorite room !

 

This week I finished decorating the cozy corner in my sister’s house.

French oak library

 

About a year ago I posted about a custom made library (HERE) that was designed by Natalie Haegeman of Natalie Haegeman Interiors and realized by our company Lefèvre Interiors.

Although the library is installed since more than half a year, we hadn’t yet found the time to take some photographs of this project.

The library is recently photographed to appear in a Belgian interior design magazine. Although these pictures here today aren’t the ones of the magazine’s professional photographer, they already give you a sneak peek into the library room.

Totally smitten

 

Yes I am!  Totally smitten with this library decorated by the brand of timeless home decor Slettvoll in Norway !

The way Slettvoll has combined the traditional style of the library with their furniture and decorative accessories is gorgeous!  Elegant and timeless!

The furniture is designed by the talented Helene Hennie, who was awarded the Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year 2007. Helene started her collaboration with Slettvoll in 2005.

Regency library part II

 

Dear readers, a few weeks ago I told you about a Lefèvre Interiors library project, completely executed in the English Regency style. If you missed this post, you can read it HERE .

Remember I mentionned that I really needed to visit our client to take some ‘after’ pictures!

A couple of days after posting about this project, I received an email from our client , sending me…yes indeed…’after’ pictures!!! So I realized that my client was also a reader of my blog!!!! I was very surprised and enchanted at the same time!

The following pictures are the ‘after’ pictures I received from our client. 

Notice the British Regency period (1811-1820) elements: mahogany armchairs, double desk and especially the daybed. All this, together with the collection of antiques on the chimney and the skin of leopard on the daybed.testifies to a great classicism.

Together with Thomas Hope (read more about Thomas Hope in my previous post HERE), GEORGE SMITH was a renown designer of the English Regency period. As being an Egyptologist in his earlier career, he was of course an enthusiast for the new Egyptian style. He published his “Collection of Designs for Household Furniture and Interior Decoration" in 1808, and four years later he published a further volume, “Collection of Ornamental Design After the Manner of the Antique". George Smith was delighted by Egyptian ornaments and found it a novelty he could not resist using to the full. Later he went on to produce a further major volume  which he proudly called “The Cabinet Makers and Upholsterers Guide” .

A library project

A few months ago Natalie of Natalie Haegeman Interiors contacted us asking for help with the realization of a library project for one of her Belgian clients.

As my company Lefèvre Interiors is specialized in made-to-measure and custom-made cabinetry and paneling, we were very pleased with the opportunity to help Natalie with the project she had in mind.

Natalie started sketching the library and shared thoughts with her client.

Many meetings later, my husband Jan took all the required measurements and worked out the technical plan of the library room.

Natalie’s client absolutely preferred to use French oak for the cabinetry.

At this moment, about 3 months later, the execution of the library in the Lefevre Interiors workshop is almost finished.

Before leaving to our client’s home, we always build up the room in our workshop, which gives our craftsmen the opportunity to work out, in a comfortable way, all the details, as placing profiles, corniches,…to make sure the installation at the client’s home will progress as required.

As you can see it is a very large room. More or less all cabinets are built up and we now have to place shelving and profiles.

 

 

Even the beautiful double doors to the other rooms (I haven’t pictures of them yet) are made in our company and have to be installed next week.

The library will move to Natalie’s client’s home within a few days!

 

Jan and me love working together with interior designers and architects. Sharing thoughts about design and construction is an opportunity to learn a lot from each other.

 

As Natalie is an interior designer, she will decorate this library room with her own collection of fabrics and furniture.

So both, Natalie and me, can’t wait to see this library project finished !
