Inspirational Art: Henry Hargreaves

How fun and amazing are these works of art photography by Henry Hargreaves. I discovered these pieces via CMYBacon. These are two of five from his Subway Series. He also makes a map of Washington's subway using M&Ms, London's in dyed spaghetti, and Moscow's in yarn. The ribbon and the pipecleaner shown above are my favourites though. Here's why:

I love the whimsy and the fluid line of the ribbon used to depict the New York City subway. I think that this is an interesting and contradictory way to illustrate a highly organized and structured system of the hustling and bustling city. The transparency of the ribbon gives depth and dimension. Absolutely brilliant.

The Paris Subway is a favourite simply for its clean line and fun colour. I especially like the pops of lilac, pink and minty green. I think that pipecleaner would be the easiest medium to try and do a DIY of this project in... hmmm, maybe one day!

These works would definitely make great conversation pieces! I'm truly inspired by the work of Hargreaves.

A ‘Hotel Particulier’ in Paris

I  hope that you all have had a wonderful Mother’s Day! If you want to drop your family a hint for next year’s Mother’s day, then maybe you could show the images of this elegant Parisian hotel , to hopefully be invited to spend a Mother’s Day weekend here!!!

Browsing the magazine Elle Decoration, issue Mai 2011, I came across this hotel that recently is been given a new look by the American-in-Paris designer Bambi Sloan. With an English humour she redesigned the interior of the hotel in her personal bright version of the French 19th century Napoleon III-style.

This beautiful hotel Saint James Paris is a magnificent chateau built in 1893 in the center of Paris, protected from prying eyes by high walls and a wrought iron gate.

It was previously known as the Saint James's Club and has been in private French ownership since 1992. Now it is run as a lovely chateau-hotel.

It was here that the Montgolfières launched the first primitive airship.

Fabulous new address in Paris : Une Âme en Plus

 

Dear friends, today I really have to share with you a new address in Paris!

Cecilia, the author of one of my favorite Spanish blogs DESDE MY VENTANA, wrote a post this morning about a beautiful French Castle, owned by the antiques dealer Aurélien Deleuze. You MUST read Cecilia’s post HERE !!!! Cecilia posted some GORGEOUS images of this French Southern Château!! I scrolled down this post over and over again this morning!

I was so curious about this antiques dealer and started googling the name Aurélien Deleuze. I discovered a most beautiful website of his Parisian showroom UNE ÂME EN PLUS !

Aurélien Deleuze introduces us to a beautiful ‘mis en scène’ decor at his showroom, located in the centre of Paris! Visitors can really discover wonderful antiques furniture and decorative items in a fabulous created dream scene!

Yes, this is the address of the new flagship store of Ralp Lauren in Paris!

What a gorgeous building, isn’t it!

The building has been restored over the past four years and includes six floors of retail space, including a restaurant in the old stable’s called RALPH’S which will strive to serve the best burgers and fries in the city!!!

Sharing pictures of that restaurant is what I wanted to do today! I love the exterior of the building as well as the interior of the restaurant!

I love the way of mixing the seats, upholstered in the typical RL fabric, with the wrought iron French chairs.

Impressions of Maison & Objet and blogger "meet and greet"

Although I am back home from Saturday night, I really did not found the time to post about our trip to Paris for the Maison & Objet exhibition.

It was a very nice but exhausted visit.

I have taken a lot of pictures but I will show you here some impressions of Maison & Objet and a few of my favorite pictures.

There were so many items to discover as table wear and table linen, bedlinen, fabrics,...but I have to say that I was in particular interested in furniture and lighting companies.

You know that I wrote about the blogger "Paris meet and greet" in my previous post!

Well, a few of us met in the Hotel Duo Bar in Paris!

This was the place to be....

....and here we are!!!

It was so nice meeting Maryanne, Peter, Amanda, Tracey and Haley. We talked a lot and learned to know eachother better!

I am so thankful that they all did an effort to meet us there!!

So a few cocktails and glasses of Champagne later, we kissed good bye and went to our hotel room because we were all tired of walking around at Maison & Objet during the day.
