Kitchens on the Brain - High Gloss White

Hi loves! I've got a mean case of kitchens on the brain. I'm guessing it's partly due to my brother's current kitchen renovation....but MOSTLY due to my new kitchen designer position which I will be starting in two weeks! I'm looking forward to giving clients their dream kitchens.

In preparation for my new job, I've been thinking about styles of kitchens that differ from my own go-to preferred style of classic white shaker cabinetry. Today, I'm getting inspired by a more modern take on kitchen cabinets: high gloss white.

^ I love Style at Home editor Erin McLaughlin's high gloss kitchen because it is the perfect balance of contemporary and traditional.

I'm sort of loving the simplicity of these cabinets and the way they reflect the light. I bet they'd be easy to wipe down too!

Are you guys fans of high gloss cabinets!?
Have a great long weekend!!

Look For Less - Lucite Clutch

Honestly, I haven't been this excited about a fashion find in a long time. I've been covetting a lucite clutch for many months now, but the price tag of the ones I've seen made me think it was never going to happen. I even considered DIYing my own, a la Stripes and Sequins, but never got around to it.

But loves, Forever 21 has come through again with the ultimate save:
forever 21 / charlotte olympia
Now that's what I call a deal! (Am I the only one who things it's crazy to spend a grand on a small plastic box?...no matter how gorgeous it may be?).
And now, some lucite clutch inspiration - because I can't get enough!

Our living room-update

Previous weeks I got a lot of emails from readers who were interested in our living room redo and who asked me when I would be able to post some ‘after’ pictures.

The very first post about our living redo dates from January 30th this year (see it here) ! Almost 7 months ago !

We are currently finalizing the decoration of the room. The passed days Jan took care of adding the picture lighting fixtures while I was thinking about the furniture and decorative accessories to bring in.

I have to admit that I am not finished yet with all the decoration of the room. That is why I only have posted a few pictures of the redo so far. More to come within a few days.

2I absolutely wanted to have placed again, the French painted commode, earlier seen in the living room.

This chest is made and finished after an antique piece, in the workshop of our company Lefèvre Interiors.

The patina of the commode looks wonderful with the gray finish we have given the wooden floor. To read more about the floor finish, read my post about it here.

3The painting above the commode is of the artist Jean-Marc Louis.

5Antique French régence walnut chimney piece Cheminées Anciennes Jean Zunino.

7  Seat upholstered with Libeco linen. Balloon shade fabric C&C Milano. To read more about the window treatment, please read my post about it here.

9Antique Italian sconces Garnier Antiques. Window treatment by Patrick Ponseele.

11As you can see here in this picture, the room isn’t finished yet. I am thinking about which fabric to choose for the upholstery of these 2 French 19th century walnut armchairs I found in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (France), a few years ago.

I hope you enjoyed this living room redo update post ! More pictures later!

Vintage Ginger Jar

I am completely smitten with ginger jars! Historically, ginger jars were used to hold provisions such as ginger, salt, and oil. Today, especially in the Western world, ginger jars are usually used as decorative accessories. They are an adorable little chinoiserie element that can be incorporated into almost any room. We all know the stately blue and white jars (which look especially good in multiples), but the other day when I was at the antique store I found this little yellow, mint and red beauty:
For only $13, this little treasure came home with me!
It's little items like these that truly make a space feel special.
Do you have any ginger jars? Can anybody tell me what the chinese character means?

Belgian Luxury B&B ‘Vaucelles - The Little Monastery’

Those who are following my blog since a few years, will have noticed that in September 2009 I wrote a blogpost about the opening of the new showroom of Belgian renowned antiques dealers Brigitte & Alain Garnier (click HERE to read this blogpost).

Years ago the Garnier family bought the old property ‘Vaucelleshof’, used to be an abbey with about 10 monks living there. The family restored the house with passion and with respect for its history.

‘Vaucelleshof’ is wonderfully situated in the green and open surroundings of the medieval village of Damme, only 10 minutes from Bruges. The property now consists out of buildings of the 17th, 18th and 19th century, all carefully restored.

Who doesn’t remember the cover of Veranda Magazine March 2011, where the dining room of the Garnier family was shown. Or the orangerie of Vaucelleshof that made it on the cover of the gorgeous book Quiet Living.

‘Vaucelleshof’ is not only the residence of the Garnier family, but also accomodates the showroom, full of antiques!

Four years after the opening of their antiques showroom, the Garniers are pleased to announce the opening of their Luxury B&B ‘Vaucelles’ – The Little Monastery.

The small hotel currently counts 3 rooms. Two more rooms will be finished in 2014.
